Prospective Students - Which programme is right for me?

Courses for enthusiasts, professionals and prospective students

Instructors

All instructors are well qualified and experienced in the field of hospitality. All AHA-IHMS instructors have received their Certified Hospitality Instructor (CHI) designation from the American Hospitality Academy. Each AHA-IHMS instructor participates regularly in staff development programmes. Many have been trained at top hotels in the USA through the AHA training programmes and have received their Certified Hospitality Supervisor (CHS) designation from the American Hotel and Lodging Association.

Minimum Entrance Requirements:


Application Requirements for SA Citizens and Permanent Residents:

  1. A completed, signed original Application and Enrollment Form.
  2. R 300 non refundable Application Fee.
  3. Proof of Graduation: Certified copy of official high school/secondary school transcripts or UMALUSI Certificate.
  4. Two letters of reference: one from the Principal or Guidance Counsellor and one from a former teacher.
  5. Curriculum Vitae.
  6. Certified copy of Identity Document or Passport.


For students out of high school longer than two years, two letters of reference from former instructors and/or employers are required.

Application Requirements for International Students:

  1. A completed, signed original Application and Enrollment Form.
  2. Proof of Graduation: Certified copy of official secondary school, University or College transcripts with (a) an official English translation of the transcript (b) a grading guide that gives equivalent U.S. grades,
  3. SAQA (South African Qualifications Authority) clearance results of International certificates.
  4. Proof of English competency. AHA-SA will accept as proof a TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language) score of at least 500 or sufficient documentation of a significant level of English instruction. An IELTS score of 5.5 is also acceptable.
  5. All programmes are presented in English, therefore students' English abilities will be measured by an English Entrance Test administered before they enter the academic programme. Should students fail this test AHA-SA shall recommend that they undertake remedial English or an ESL course (English as a Second Language) either before starting their academic programme or as part of their first term's work.
  6. Certified copy of Identity Document or Passport.


The Private Hotel School offers tuition for the various programmes on offer. All programmes are certified by the American Hospitality Academy.
