Directors Welcome2009-12-11Dear Student, A warm word of welcome to you!The Private Hotel School hums with the excitement of a new academic year and the challenges that will come with 2010. New and returning students are eagerly exploring all that the hospitality industry has to offer and the class of 2008 will soon graduate to start their illustrious careers. The January 2010 intake includes students from the Western Province (60%), other provinces of South Africa (30%), as well as our neighbouring countries such as Namibia, Nigeria, Mozambique and Lesotho (10%). The hospitality industry in South Africa is set to undergo a major transformation, with key emphasis on quality training, to ensure that the country is sufficiently prepared with qualified people, resources and systems for 2010 AND beyond! At the PHS our mission is to develop future hospitality leaders with the practical training, academic knowledge, specialised skills and cultural understanding necessary to succeed in today’s global economy, whilst fostering international goodwill and friendship. We are pleased that you have joined us at our picturesque Stellenbosch campus with its bustling student life. As a student of the Private Hotel School (PHS), you will master high levels of very specialised knowledge and gain skills needed for a competitive hospitality environment. You will develop an understanding of this relatively young and unfamiliar field of study, which engages the application of social sciences, business and technology in the context of the hospitality industry. During your studies at the PHS, you will be exposed to the challenges of a multi-disciplinary, results-focused and technology-driven entrepreneurial venture and learn how to incorporate values, ethics and passion. Attached please find the following information to assist you with final preparation and orientation.
You will also receive our latest electronic newsletter via your e-mail address which we have on file. This monthly e-newsletter will bring you a well-rounded view of the school and a steady stream of PHS events, as well as information about our restaurant and guesthouse. We are also working on ways to incorporate more career and networking opportunities into the future newsletters. Please visit our newly designed websites — www.privatehotelschool.co.za and www.33stay.co.za which are updated with detailed information to answer most of your questions. Lastly - a special word from Mrs Cindi Reiman, President of AHA-IHMS on other AHA fronts … “We have hired the past President of Johnson and Wales (Charleston campus) to act as interim President of our online World Campus and our new Culinary school on Hilton Head Island and have also brought on David Lecther from EI as a consultant. Lots of great stuff happening now that we have our official license from SC CHE! We also are in the process of signing articulation agreements with Ravi’s school in the USA, then a school in Brussels, Australia and many others. So, all of our diploma credits will soon transfer to bachelor degree programs around the world. Should students of AHA South Africa wish to pursue their bachelors – they will soon have the opportunity…” WELCOME to one of the most exciting and fastest-growing industries in the world today!
